LAS VEGAS — A 36-year-old man was fatally shot in a northwest Las Vegas residence before the gunman turned the weapon on himself, authorities reported.

Daniel Sheahan died from multiple gunshot wounds in what investigators described as a homicide, according to the Clark County coroner's office. The shooter, identified as Eddie Wide III, 37, succumbed to a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Police said the events transpired shortly after 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 11 in the 4500 block of North Vogue Street, near Craig Road and Tenaya Way. Officers arrived to find two men with gunshot injuries. One was declared dead at the scene, while the other was rushed to a hospital but later pronounced deceased.

According to detectives, Sheahan had been visiting a friend at the home when Wide arrived and gained entry without authorization. An argument ensued between the two men, prompting Wide to draw a firearm and fire multiple rounds at Sheahan. Wide then shot himself, police stated.

No other individuals were reported injured in the incident, and authorities have not disclosed a motive or the nature of the relationship between Sheahan and Wide. The investigation remains active, with homicide detectives urging anyone with details to contact them or submit anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers.

Sheahan, a Las Vegas resident, served as a dedicated member of the military, authorities and family confirmed. He was remembered by loved ones as a committed parent and spouse, known for his steadfast loyalty and quiet resolve in supporting those close to him. A community fundraiser established in his memory has garnered numerous contributions to assist with memorial expenses, reflecting widespread sympathy and support.

Wide, from nearby Henderson, had worked as a juvenile probation officer for Clark County since 2014. County officials expressed profound dismay over the tragedy, noting that counseling services and resources were being extended to affected staff and families through established programs.

Residents in the quiet neighborhood expressed shock at the violence in an area typically free from such disturbances, according to local accounts. Community leaders called for enhanced mental health initiatives in response, emphasizing the need for accessible support amid rising concerns over gun-related incidents.

The deaths mark another somber entry in Las Vegas's ongoing challenges with violent crime, as authorities continue to probe the circumstances leading to the confrontation.
