GLASSPORT, Pa. (DailyKenn.com) — A young man's death following a dispute over a video game console has left a small Pennsylvania community mourning, with authorities charging a neighbor in the fatal incident.

Le Andre Porch, 22, was climbing the stairs to his apartment on Hemlock Alley on the evening of January 31, 2025, when gunfire erupted, according to Allegheny County police. Investigators said the shooting stemmed from an ongoing disagreement between Porch and his downstairs neighbor, Robert Wright, 26, regarding payment for an Xbox console that Wright had sold to Porch months earlier.

Court documents indicate the tension escalated that night after Porch allegedly confronted Wright about the device. Wright, through his attorney, maintained he acted in self-defense, claiming Porch approached his door armed with a firearm and made threats. Police reported that Wright fired a single shot from inside his apartment, striking Porch in the neck. Emergency responders found Porch wounded at the scene shortly after 7 p.m. and rushed him to UPMC Mercy Hospital in critical condition.

Despite medical efforts, Porch succumbed to his injuries on February 2, 2025, authorities confirmed. An autopsy by the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office ruled the death a homicide caused by the gunshot wound. Porch, known to loved ones as "Dredo," was remembered by family as a kind-hearted individual who enjoyed gaming and spending time with friends. In a poignant gesture, his organs were donated, saving several lives, relatives shared.

Wright surrendered to police on February 4, 2025, following the upgrade of charges after Porch's death. He faces counts of criminal homicide, aggravated assault, and carrying a firearm without a license, according to charging documents. During a preliminary arraignment, a judge denied bail, citing Wright as a potential danger to the community. His attorney argued the shooting was justified, noting Wright feared for his safety amid prior disputes.

Neighbors described the apartment building as typically quiet, expressing shock at the violence. One resident, who declined to be named, told investigators they heard arguing before the shot rang out but did not witness the confrontation. Community members gathered for a vigil shortly after, lighting candles and calling for an end to gun violence in the borough of about 4,300 people.

Porch's family launched an online fundraiser to cover funeral expenses, raising thousands in donations while highlighting his legacy of generosity. Local officials urged residents to resolve conflicts peacefully, with the incident prompting discussions on neighborhood mediation programs.

As the case proceeds through the courts, Glassport remains reflective, hoping for justice while healing from the loss.
