SEATTLE (DailyKenn.com) — A 28-year-old man faces murder charges in the death of a Seattle resident gunned down last spring in a dispute that left his family reeling and prompted a months-long manhunt.

Authorities report that David Chuyeshkov, 40, was found mortally wounded inside a unit at the Tuscany Apartments in Seattle's First Hill neighborhood shortly before 2 a.m. on April 2, 2025. Officers responding to reports of gunfire arrived to discover Chuyeshkov suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso. They immediately began life-saving efforts, but despite the arrival of Seattle Fire Department medics, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Another individual sustained injuries in the same incident, according to police.

The sequence began when an argument escalated into violence at the ground-floor apartment, which investigators described as a site frequented by transients and linked to drug activity, though Chuyeshkov himself was not a resident of the building. A relative, speaking anonymously due to safety concerns, said she learned the confrontation stemmed from a disagreement over a scooter. "It's heartbreaking that something so trivial could end a life," the relative said, adding that Chuyeshkov was known for his generosity and willingness to assist others in need.

Eyewitnesses at the complex told officers they saw a man matching the suspect's description fleeing the area immediately after shots rang out. Police quickly identified the alleged shooter as Ayub S. Mohamed, also known as "IU," a Black male standing about 6 feet 1 inch tall with a heavy build and dark hair. Detectives warned the public that Mohamed should be considered armed and dangerous, urging anyone spotting him to contact authorities without delay.

For nearly four months, Mohamed evaded capture, marking the case as Seattle's ninth homicide of the year and heightening concerns among First Hill residents about persistent issues with unauthorized occupants and related crime in certain buildings. Community members cooperated with tips to the violent crimes hotline, police said, aiding the ongoing probe.

The breakthrough came on July 23, 2025, when Bellevue officers stopped Mohamed for a minor infraction and recognized him from wanted alerts. He was taken into custody peacefully and transferred to Seattle authorities. Prosecutors booked him into King County Jail on charges including first-degree murder, assault and burglary, with formal proceedings pending.

Chuyeshkov's family expressed profound grief over the loss, describing him as a compassionate figure whose death shattered their world. "We're broken," the relative said, hoping the arrest brings some measure of closure while emphasizing the senselessness of gun violence over everyday disputes.

Local advocates noted the incident underscored broader challenges with housing insecurity and substance use in the area, prompting calls for enhanced building security and support services. Police credited public vigilance for helping resolve the case, reaffirming their commitment to addressing violent crime in the city.
