ALCOLU, S.C. — A local man was discovered shot to death inside a vehicle, prompting authorities to take two people into custody as they probe the circumstances surrounding the killing.

Clarendon County Sheriff's Office deputies arrived at the 1300 block of Pinecrest Acres on Thursday afternoon following reports of gunfire. They located a white Jeep Cherokee parked in the area, according to sheriff's officials. Inside the front passenger seat, they found the body of Randy Wing, 36, of Alcolu, who had sustained a fatal gunshot wound.

Coroner Jacqueline Blackwell confirmed Wing's identity and said his next of kin, including his wife, Maria Yvette Witten Wing, had been notified. An autopsy was set for the following day at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston to determine the exact cause and manner of death.

Sheriff's investigators quickly identified and detained two individuals in connection with the shooting: Terence Wilson, 41, and Tammy Eghafona, 31. As of Friday, no formal charges had been filed, and the sheriff's office described the probe as active, urging anyone with information to contact the criminal investigations division.

Details about what led to the gunfire remain limited, with authorities withholding specifics on the sequence of events or any potential motive. No immediate statements from eyewitnesses were made public, though officials indicated that interviews with possible observers were part of the ongoing inquiry.

The incident has shaken the small community of Alcolu, a rural area in Clarendon County known for its tight-knit residents. Locals who knew Wing recalled him as a kind and approachable person, often involved in youth sports like baseball and football during his younger years. One neighbor described the loss as deeply painful, noting it has left families grappling with grief and concern over safety. Another resident living nearby called the event tragic, attributing it to factors like alcohol and emotional instability, and expressed heartbreak over the senseless violence.

Wing, born in 1989, leaves behind his wife and other family members. Funeral arrangements were pending as the community mourned. Sheriff's officials emphasized that the case does not appear to pose an ongoing threat to the public but reiterated the need for tips to aid the investigation.

The shooting marks the first homicide reported in Clarendon County this year, according to local records. Authorities plan to release more information as the case progresses.
