NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. — A 29-year-old man from Ladson died after he was shot multiple times in the parking lot of a sports bar on Rivers Avenue following a dispute that started over a game of pool.
Kevin Lamar Green was inside Mulligans pub shortly before 11:30 p.m. on March 4 when he began arguing with 17-year-old Maxwell Thomas Koller. The confrontation moved outside. As Green and his girlfriend attempted to leave, Koller went to his pickup truck, retrieved a handgun and fired several rounds, striking Green, according to police affidavits.
Officers arrived within moments and found Green suffering from gunshot wounds in the parking lot. Paramedics provided aid, but he was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:35 p.m., the Charleston County Coroner’s Office reported.
Koller fled on foot. Surveillance footage and other evidence showed he was picked up about 10 minutes later near Northwoods Mall by his mother, Renee Jonelle Koller, who drove him home, investigators said.
North Charleston police charged Maxwell Thomas Koller, of Summerville, with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. He is being prosecuted as an adult and waived his right to a bond hearing at an initial court appearance, remaining in custody.
His parents, Renee Jonelle Koller, 52, and Thomas David Koller, 55, each face a charge of accessory after the fact to murder for allegedly helping their son flee. Renee Koller was released on $100,000 bond. Thomas Koller and his son were located in Midway, Georgia, by U.S. Marshals and extradited; Thomas Koller received a $250,000 bond.
On March 30, authorities arrested 19-year-old Aiden Jeffery Roberts of North Charleston and charged him with accessory before the fact of murder. Police allege he supplied the handgun used in the shooting.
The investigation continues.
