SANDERSVILLE, Ga. — A 61-year-old man walking along a rural Washington County road was struck and killed by a vehicle that crossed the centerline late last month, authorities said, and two men were arrested the following day in connection with the incident.
The crash occurred around 9 p.m. on March 28 on the 500 block of Waco Mill Road near Tennille. Randall Waters, of Harrison, was walking home after visiting a friend when a white Ford Focus traveling westbound veered across the center line, struck him and then collided with a parked semi-trailer. The driver and at least one other occupant fled the scene on foot, abandoning the vehicle.
Georgia State Patrol troopers investigated the matter as a hit-and-run. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office assisted and identified Waters as the victim. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators moved quickly on leads. On March 29, authorities arrested Derrion Daquan Yorker, 22, of Tennille, at a residence on West Brown Drive in Davisboro. He faces charges including homicide by vehicle in the first degree, hit-and-run resulting in death or serious injury, failure to maintain lane and speeding in excess of maximum limits.
The same day, deputies arrested Isaiah Kelik Tarver, 22, of Davisboro, charging him with harboring a fugitive for allegedly assisting Yorker after the crash. Both men were taken into custody and remained jailed.
No witness accounts of the collision itself have been publicly detailed. Officials requested that anyone with information contact the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
The investigation remains active, and authorities have not ruled out additional charges.
