CHANTILLY, Virginia — A holiday gathering in Loudoun County took a devastating turn early on July 4, 2026, when a single gunshot ended the life of 33-year-old Brandon Fadden.

Deputies from the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office arrived at a residence in Chantilly just before 2 a.m. after receiving reports of a shooting. They found Fadden, who lived in nearby Centreville, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities quickly took Joshua Soroko, 31, also of Chantilly, into custody. Soroko faces charges of involuntary manslaughter, shooting a weapon inside an occupied dwelling, and reckless handling of a firearm. He remains held without bond at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.

Detectives determined the home belonged to Soroko. Court documents note that three other people were inside when he discharged the firearm, resulting in Fadden’s death. Investigators believe the two men knew each other as friends, though the exact circumstances leading to the shooting have not been publicly detailed. A motive has yet to be established, and Soroko is the only person charged so far.

This case highlights how quickly a routine evening can shift into tragedy, even among acquaintances. Firearms require constant respect and care, especially in shared spaces where multiple people gather. Loudoun County officials continue their work through the Robbery/Homicide Unit to piece together the full picture.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Detective Franks at the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.
