ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. — A 19-year-old white man, a recent high school graduate, lost his life in the early hours of June 22, 2026, during a fatal shooting that also claimed the life of a 15-year-old black girl.

Patrick Shane Faircloth, known to family and friends as Shane, was one of two young people from the Whiteville area who died that morning in Roanoke Rapids. Authorities identified the second victim as Mariah Thompson. Both had traveled from Columbus County.

Investigators from the Roanoke Rapids Police Department quickly linked the case to a broader inquiry involving multiple agencies. By early July, they named Eric Lamont Martin Jr., 18, also of Whiteville, as a suspect in the deaths. Martin already faced charges in a separate June 11 killing in Columbus County. Officials described him as armed and dangerous and urged the public not to approach him.

Isaiah Napoleon Cooper, 19, of Whiteville, later faced charges of accessory after the fact and obstruction of justice related to the Roanoke Rapids case. Court documents indicated he was present at the time of the deaths.

Martin was taken into custody on July 5 in Wake County after deputies located him at a residence near Raleigh. Multiple law enforcement units, including K-9 and drone teams, assisted in the arrest. He faces murder charges connected to the June 22 deaths.

Roanoke Rapids Police Chief Lawrence Wiggins noted that the investigation demanded significant coordination across local and state agencies. Officials said the work continues and that more details may become public as the case progresses.

Faircloth, who was white, had graduated from Whiteville High School in 2025. He had recently marked his 19th birthday. Those close to him remembered a young man who took pride in working on custom trucks and rarely hesitated to lend a hand to others.

Faircloth’s funeral arrangements remained private, according to his family. A former teacher of Thompson established a fundraising page to support her relatives with related costs.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Roanoke Rapids Police Department or Halifax County Crime Stoppers.
