KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A young father lost his life late on the night of June 19, 2026, when gunfire erupted during a gathering in the historic jazz district of Kansas City, Missouri.

David E. Beck III, 29, died at the scene after police and medical crews responded to reports of shots fired around 10:30 p.m. Five other people suffered injuries ranging from stable to critical. Investigators described the incident as an exchange involving several people.

Beck had spent the evening near the Juneteenth celebrations in the area before the shooting started. Kansas City police homicide detectives continue to investigate. They have asked anyone with information to contact them or the tips line. No arrests had been announced in the days immediately after the shooting. Born April 17, 1997, in Kansas City, he left behind a four-month-old daughter, Rayah, who family members say was the center of his world. He also is survived by his parents, brothers, sisters, grandparents and a wide circle of relatives who remembered him as steady and kind.

At work, Beck operated a forklift in a warehouse for a roofing company.
