Convict sentenced after killing couple who offered him help

Justice arrived years later for two people in South Carolina who simply tried to help strangers one October night.

On Aug. 14, Circuit Judge J. Mark Hayes II sentenced 28-year-old Deandre Lashun Fuller of Spartanburg to four consecutive life terms without parole, plus five years for a related weapons charge. A jury had convicted him days earlier of two counts of murder, armed robbery, first-degree burglary and possession of a weapon by a person previously convicted of a violent crime. His trial opened Aug. 10.

The crimes took place early on Oct. 25, 2020. Kelli Curran and Timothy Thompson opened their door in Spartanburg County after two men said their vehicle had broken down and asked for assistance. Once inside, one of the visitors drew a handgun and shot both residents several times. The pair then brought a third man into the house and took firearms along with a safe before leaving.

Curran, though injured, managed to dial 911 while the men were still present. The call recorded one referring to another as “Dubb.” After they left, she provided descriptions to the dispatcher. She died later that morning. Thompson survived for about two months before dying from his wounds.

Investigators later learned that Thompson had recently traded vehicles with someone who mentioned to Kenyatta “Dubb” Lebby that guns and marijuana were kept in the home. Cellphone records then connected Lebby, Fuller and Tyleek Rayquaun Johnson to the robbery. Authorities arrested Fuller in Greenville in February 2021; a rifle stolen during the crime was recovered at the property.

Lebby pleaded guilty in March 2024 and received 35 years in prison. Johnson was convicted in May 2025 and sentenced to 55 years. Fuller’s case closed the prosecutions against all three men involved.

Prosecutors presented evidence that the group met in Greenville, traveled to the victims’ residence and returned the same day. The case relied on phone tracking, the 911 recording and recovery of stolen property.

The sentence ensures Fuller will remain incarcerated for life. South Carolina courts handled the matter through the Seventh Circuit Solicitor’s Office, which pursued the charges to conclusion more than five years after the original attack.
