A Delaware County jury has convicted Marson Weh of first-degree murder in the 2023 killing of 15-year-old Michael Garr, bringing a lengthy investigation to a conclusion more than three years after the teenager was fatally stabbed in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania.

Garr, a sophomore at Upper Darby High School, was killed on April 21, 2023, while walking home. Police found him suffering from stab wounds at about 9:30 p.m. He died from his injuries.

The case remained open for months before investigators identified Weh as a suspect. Police arrested him 11 days after Garr's death. At the time, Weh was also being held in Ohio on unrelated charges.

Evidence connected Weh to the killing

During the September 2026 trial, prosecutors presented surveillance footage and physical evidence that they said placed Weh in the area before and after the attack.

A detective testified that blood found on clothing Weh was wearing when he was taken into custody was later identified as Garr's. Prosecutors also told jurors that Garr's blood was found on the handle of a knife believed to have been used in the killing.

Investigators said surveillance video helped them track the movements of the suspect. Prosecutors argued that Garr and Weh did not know one another and that there was no established personal connection between them.

The prosecution's case centered on the evidence linking Weh to Garr's death rather than on a clear motive. Authorities have said the reason for the attack remains unknown.

Jury reaches verdict

After hearing testimony and reviewing the evidence, the Delaware County jury found Weh guilty Sept. 24, 2026, of first-degree murder. He was also convicted of possessing an instrument of crime.

The jury reached its verdict after roughly 30 minutes of deliberation, according to multiple reports.

Weh is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 5, 2026. Under Pennsylvania law, first-degree murder carries a mandatory sentence of life imprisonment without parole.

The verdict came more than three years after the teenager's death. The criminal case now moves into its sentencing phase, while the question of why Garr was targeted remains unanswered.

No information was found on Weh's immigration status. However, Weh is a West African surname from Liberia, associated with a male personal name among the Kru people. In the specific case of Marson Weh, the surname could be consistent with Liberian/West African ancestry, but it would not be accurate to conclude that he is Liberian, Kru, African, German, or any particular ethnicity based solely on his surname.
