MOAB, Utah — Anzhela “Angela” Pronina, a 33-year-old Moab woman, died Monday after being critically wounded in a shooting inside her home nearly a week earlier, according to Moab police.

The Sept. 15 attack left Pronina with life-threatening injuries and also claimed the life of Charles Anthony “Tony” Nelson, 30, of Moab. Police said their preliminary findings indicate Nelson forced his way into Pronina’s home, shot her and then took his own life.

911 call

Officers were dispatched shortly after 4 p.m. Sept. 15 after a 911 call reported a disturbance at the residence. When officers arrived, they found Pronina and Nelson suffering from gunshot wounds.

Nelson was pronounced dead at the scene. Pronina was transported to a hospital in Moab and later prepared for transfer to a Level II trauma center as doctors worked to stabilize her condition.

At the time, police described Pronina as being in extremely critical condition. Investigators also said they were not searching for another suspect and that there was no indication of an ongoing threat to the public.

Pronina died Monday afternoon, Sept. 21, 2026, police announced the following day.

Investigation remains active

Although police have described Nelson as the person who shot Pronina, investigators said the case remains active. Officers are continuing to interview witnesses and gather additional information.

Police have not publicly established what relationship, if any, existed between Pronina and Nelson. Her family lives in Ukraine, and investigators said they were still working to speak with relatives as they continued the investigation.
