DailyKenn.com — Intentionally ramming into protesters for sport may still get you in trouble with the law in Oklahoma. But if you are fleeing a riot and fear for your safety, a new law in that state provides immunity if you injure or kill a protester.

According to oklahoman.com, "HB 1674 protects drivers who fear for their safety while 'fleeing from a riot' and also updates state law to classify as a misdemeanor the unlawful obstruction of a road or highway."

Take aways...

• Street protests are examples of free speech limits. You may say what you want, but not while obstructing traffic on an Interstate.

• Americans are granted freedom of assembly, but you may not assemble in a busy intersection during rush hour.

The ACLU of Oklahoma says it is in "serious conversations" with its partners on next steps to protect Oklahomans' right to free speech.

"The power of protest belongs with the people, and we will not tolerate these attempts to silence Oklahomans," said Nicole McAfee, the group's director of policy and advocacy.
