Reports say Barber met Motry at a Burger King she managed. Motry was a employee there. The two became romantically involved, even though the victim was married.
On March 4, a fisherman made a grim discovery along the banks of the Flint River—a bag containing Barber's remains. According to police reports, Barber had been seen with Motry at the Flint Motel on February 28. Surveillance footage from February 29 captured Motry leaving the motel premises carrying a sizable bag.
Authorities revealed that on March 3, motel workers found a bed comforter drenched in blood, significant blood traces in the bathroom, and kitty litter scattered around the room in an attempt to mask any odors. Concerns escalated when Barber failed to appear for her shift at Burger King, prompting her coworkers to report her missing.
Investigators suspect that Motry disposed of Barber's body by dumping the bag along the Flint River. The bag was spotted by the fisherman with toes protruding, leading to a 911 call.
