The victims are Joshua Eyer, Sam Poloche, Thomas Weeks Jr., and Alden Elliott.
The deceased suspect was later identified as Terry Clark Hughes, Jr, 39.
The suspect opened fire on officers, resulting in the death of four officers and injuring four others. The incident occurred when a U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force attempted to serve a warrant on a felon for firearm possession at a residence in the Shannon Park neighborhood.
Hughes engaged in a standoff with law enforcement before being fatally shot in the front yard of the home. Two other individuals in the residence were taken into custody. Chief Johnny Jennings described the event as the most devastating attack on law enforcement he has witnessed during his tenure.
Officer Eyer, who served in the North Tryon Division for six years, was remembered for his bravery and dedication to his profession. The two victims from the Department of Adult Correction, Sam Poloche and Alden Elliott, were also honored for their service and sacrifice.
Witnesses described the chaotic scene, with gunfire erupting and a significant police presence.
