DailyKenn.com — The West Flanders Public Prosecutor's Office is currently investigating the gang rape of a 14-year-old girl in Kortrijk, located in the province of West Flanders. All the perpetrators involved are minors, ranging in age from 11 to 16.

During the Easter holidays, the victim, a 14-year-old girl, fell victim to a gang rape. Allegedly, she was lured to a secluded spot near a bush, away from residential areas in the neighborhood, by her boyfriend. There, she was subjected to abuse by several of his friends, with some reports suggesting she was held there for two days. The victim is now undergoing counseling to help her cope with the trauma.

Approximately ten suspects, all minors, with the youngest being 11 years old, have been arrested in connection with the incident. "Due to the young age of the perpetrators, we are withholding extensive details about their identities," stated Tom Janssens from the Public Prosecutor's Office.

However, Janssens did confirm that all suspects have been identified and detained. They have been placed under the supervision of a juvenile judge, who has taken the necessary youth protection measures, including placement in community institutions. "The investigation is currently ongoing," Janssens told Het Nieuwsblad.

The violence brings into question the sanity of importing a culture that is steeped in centuries of inherent psychopathy.

However, Janssens did confirm that all suspects have been identified and detained. They have been placed under the supervision of a juvenile judge, who has implemented necessary measures for their protection, including placement in community institutions. "The investigation is ongoing," Janssens informed Het Nieuwsblad.

The investigation aims to determine the level of involvement of each suspect and whether they actively participated in the rape or were bystanders.

This distressing incident evokes memories of a similarly violent event that occurred three years ago in a cemetery in Ghent, East Flanders. A 14-year-old girl was gang-raped by a group of young men aged between 14 and 19, who filmed the assault and circulated the footage on social media. Tragically, the girl took her own life as a result of this violation.

This case sparked debates about increasing the minimum penalty for sexual offenses in the Flemish Parliament. Justice Minister Zuhal Demir proposed extending detention terms for perpetrators under 14 years of age up to two years, up to five years for those aged between 14 and 16, and up to seven years for offenders older than 16.

The government subsequently tightened the juvenile delinquency law in June 2021, enabling longer detention periods for individuals as young as 12 years old convicted of gang rape and similar offenses. Additionally, since 2022, juvenile offenders aged 16 and over who committed acts of gang-related violence can be tried as adults.

Minister Demir has again commented on the latest violation by young offenders, advocating that juvenile judges more frequently consider extreme violence by minors as attempted manslaughter and expedite the process of trying violent juveniles as adults.
