Police officer Jacob Derbin, 23, fatally shot in Cuyahoga Heights, Ohio

DailyKenn.com — Euclid, Ohio police officer Jacob Derbin, 23, was fatally shot in Cuyahoga Heights, OH.

Suspect 24-year-old Deshawn Vaughn died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after an hours-long standoff with police.

Officer Derbin was shot and killed while responding to an aggravated menacing report.

“The complainant stated that her child’s father threatened to harm her and her mother,” Euclid Police Chief Scott Meyer explained during a press conference Sunday night. “Officers arrived and spoke to the complainant who stated that the suspect was on foot and possibly nearby. Officers went to check the backyard and were ambushed by gunfire from the suspect.”

Vaughn fled the scene on foot after officers returned fire. He was found at a home belonging to his girlfriend. SWAT officers eventually gained entry and located Vaughn's body.
