DailyKenn.com — Over the weekend, a shooting at the Juneteenth Celebration in Old Settlers Park, Round Rock, Texas, resulted in the deaths of two women and injuries to 14 others.

The victims were identified as 54-year-old Ara Duke and 33-year-old Lyndsey Vicknair, both innocent bystanders. The ages of the injured range from 10 to 62 years old.

The shooting began when two groups started fighting near the vendor area. At least one person pulled a gun and started shooting before fleeing. Police and firefighters responded quickly, providing critical aid that likely saved lives.

The FBI and the Department of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) are assisting in the investigation, with the ATF offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. Police are also asking anyone with video or photos of the incident to upload them through an evidence request portal.

Ara Duke, from Pflugerville, attended the event with her husband, Christopher Duke. Ara, an administrator and founding staffer at IDEA Rundberg, was known for her caring nature. Her daughter, Alena Holmes, described her as her best friend. The school released a statement mourning her loss. Duke was shot in the neck and torso while her husband was in the restroom.

Lyndsey Vicknair, a mother of three from Manor and a member of the Austin Bar Association, was also a co-founder of the Austin Honey Badgers Track Club. She attended the celebration with her husband, Kevin Vicknair, who recounted her last moments. Lyndsey was a dedicated attorney and mother to Kenzie, Cairo, and Kaya. Kevin spoke about the void left in their lives and encouraged the shooter to change their path.

Takeaways...

• With few exceptions, the black community refuses to acknowledge the depth of black crime, preferring to blame white racism as a catch-all excuse.

In reality, black crime is significantly disproportionate to crime among other ethnic groups; even Hispanics. And so it has been for generations.

Do the lives of these two black women matter to Black Lives Matter?

• Given the violence that accompanies Juneteenth events, one could conclude that the holiday is a racist plot designed to prompt blacks to kill other blacks.
