DailyKenn.com — Nathan Morris, 35, was fatally shot in Canton, MI.

Devereaux Christopher Johnson, 47, was charged in connection with the shooting .

According to detroitnews.com Johnson became upset that the victim's daughter had touched his mulch. Johnson allegedly confronted Morris, a father of two girls, as he was walking down the street.

Police believe that Johnson pulled out a handgun and shot Morris multiple times. Morris was unarmed at the time of the shooting.

When authorities arrived, they transported Morris to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Following the shooting, Johnson barricaded himself inside a nearby home. Police were able to negotiate his surrender.

Johnson has been charged with first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a felon, and two counts of felony firearm. He is currently being held without bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 23.

If convicted, Johnson could face a life sentence.

The incident underscores the importance of freedom of association, such as living in neighborhoods where persons with inherent characteristics are not allowed to live.
