MIDDLEBURG, Fla. — A 14-year-old boy has been arrested after allegedly fatally shooting his parents in their Middleburg home early Monday, according to authorities.
Deputies responded to a 911 call just after midnight in which the teenager identified himself and said he had killed his parents. He was found waiting at a nearby church and taken into custody without incident.
Inside the family’s home near Silver Point and County Road 220, deputies found the bodies of 44-year-old David Lee and 45-year-old Brandi Smith. Both had suffered fatal gunshot wounds. A firearm, believed to belong to the family, was recovered at the scene.
Investigators say the shooting followed a domestic dispute the night before. They believe the act was isolated and that there is no threat to the community.
The 911 call lasted about 10 minutes as the teen reportedly requested prayers from the dispatcher while waiting for law enforcement to arrive.
Community members described the family as kind and supportive, and many expressed shock at the tragedy. A family friend said they had treated him like a son and that he was heartbroken over the incident.
The boy has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including any potential mental health factors.
