WICHITA, Kan. — A 32-year-old Wichita man, Kelly Black, was fatally shot on July 6, 2025, in east Wichita, prompting a homicide investigation by the Wichita Police Department. Officers responded around 5:50 p.m. to a shooting in the 7000 block of East Lincoln Street, where they found Black lying on the ground with a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition but later succumbed to his injuries.The investigation revealed few initial details about the circumstances leading to the shooting, and no suspects were immediately in custody. Authorities urged anyone with information to contact detectives or submit anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers.

On July 16, 2025, Hutchinson police arrested a 31-year-old parolee, Andrew Presley, in connection with Black’s death after a brief standoff. Presley was booked into Sedgwick County Jail on suspicion of second-degree murder and criminal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, stemming from a 2018 aggravated robbery conviction. The following day, Presley faced formal charges of second-degree murder in Sedgwick County District Court, with his bond set at $1 million. His next court appearance was scheduled for July 28.

Black, known to family and friends as “Bobo,” was remembered through a memorial created by his loved ones, who shared condolences and stories online. The case remains under investigation, with police continuing to seek additional information from the public.
