HAMILTON, Ala. — A 15-hour manhunt ended with the arrest of Tristen Amani Stewart, 25, charged with capital murder in the fatal shooting of his wife, Taylor Dudley Stewart, and the serious injury of their nearly 2-year-old daughter, authorities said. The incident occurred Friday evening, Aug. 15, 2025, at a residence in the 700 block of Stewart Road in Hamilton, Marion County.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office reported that Tristen Stewart allegedly shot his wife multiple times, resulting in her death, and critically injured their toddler daughter, who was taken to an out-of-state hospital for treatment. Sheriff Kevin Williams confirmed the child underwent surgery and is recovering. Authorities have not disclosed a motive, citing the ongoing investigation’s sensitive nature. 

Kenneth Stewart, 69, Tristen’s father, was also arrested and charged with aiding and abetting capital murder and obstructing governmental operations. Court records indicate Kenneth waited an hour before calling 911 after the shooting. A judge ordered Tristen Stewart held without bond, while Kenneth’s bond was set at $1.5 million, with potential for additional charges.

The manhunt, involving local, state, and federal agencies, concluded with Tristen’s capture on Saturday, Aug. 16, at approximately 11:15 a.m. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office stated additional charges are pending for Tristen Stewart.The shooting has shocked the small, rural community of Hamilton, where such violent incidents are rare. A GoFundMe page has been established to support Taylor Dudley Stewart’s family.
