Amanda Liston was driving north on Mississippi Highway 3 near Crenshaw on July 26 when her 2015 Ford F-150 veered off the road and struck a tree, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol. Troopers responding to the scene discovered Liston inside the wrecked truck suffering from fatal gunshot wounds, prompting an investigation by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.

Liston, a Panola County resident, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not disclosed whether the shooting occurred before or after the crash, but the incident has been classified as a homicide.

On Aug. 18, U.S. Marshals arrested Cortrell Motley, 36, on a first-degree murder warrant issued by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation. Motley was taken into custody without incident and faces charges in connection with Liston's death. He is being held pending further court proceedings, and the investigation remains ongoing.

No motive has been released, and officials have urged anyone with information to contact local authorities.
