CHICAGO — A 27-year-old fitness coach from suburban Vernon Hills died after a head-on collision caused by an alleged intoxicated driver traveling the wrong direction on a major highway near O'Hare International Airport, authorities reported.

Quinn Anthony Fraboni was heading northbound in his Honda sedan on Interstate 90 around 4:30 a.m. on July 10, 2024, when the incident occurred near Cumberland Avenue, according to Illinois State Police. Dispatchers had received multiple 911 calls moments earlier reporting a Volkswagen sedan driven by Jakyla M. Hester, 21, of Chicago, speeding southbound in the northbound lanes, starting from at least Arlington Heights Road several miles away.

State troopers said Hester's vehicle struck Fraboni's car directly, resulting in a fiery crash that shut down all outbound lanes for nearly six hours, with traffic diverted until reopening around 10:30 a.m. Fraboni suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed. Hester sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment before her arrest.

Investigators determined Hester was under the influence of alcohol at the time and lacked a valid driver's license, police stated. She faces charges including aggravated driving under the influence causing death, reckless homicide, and aggravated DUI without a valid license. Following her release from medical care, Hester was transported to Cook County Jail in Maywood, where she awaited a detention hearing.

Although no direct eyewitness statements from bystanders were released, the rapid succession of emergency calls highlighted the peril posed by the errant vehicle on the rain-slicked roadway, though officials noted weather's role remained unclear.

Fraboni, born in 1996, had built a career as a dedicated trainer at Flexx Personal Training in Arlington Heights, where he transitioned from client to coach, helping others pursue wellness goals with enthusiasm, his employer said. Colleagues remembered him as a warm, diligent individual whose upbeat demeanor and genuine connections left a lasting mark on clients, many of whom viewed him as more than an instructor but a close ally in their journeys.

The loss stunned the tight-knit fitness community, with gym owner Connor Flahive describing the absence as profoundly disorienting, especially when Fraboni failed to arrive for an early client session that day. Staff paused operations to grieve, vowing to carry forward his positive spirit in their daily work.

Beyond his professional circle, Fraboni's passing prompted an outpouring of support from family and friends. Survived by his parents, Jennifer and Anthony; sister, Bella; girlfriend, Jessica Jones; and extended relatives, he was honored at a memorial visitation on July 17 at Wenban Funeral Home in Lake Forest. In his memory, a community fundraiser quickly amassed over $10,000, directing contributions to organizations like Mothers Against Drunk Driving, PAWS animal shelter, and Lincoln Park Zoo, reflecting his passions for advocacy and animal welfare.

The tragedy underscored ongoing concerns about impaired driving on Illinois roadways, with state police emphasizing the preventable nature of such events.
