HYBLA VALLEY, Va. (DailyKenn.com) — Suspect Faces Murder Charge in Bus Stop Stabbing Death

Authorities in Fairfax County have charged a man with second-degree murder following the fatal stabbing of a 41-year-old woman at a public bus stop, an incident police described as apparently random.

Stephanie Minter of Fredericksburg died Monday evening after being attacked at the shelter on Richmond Highway near Arlington Drive, according to Fairfax County police. Officers arrived at the scene around 7:16 p.m. in response to a 911 call from a passerby reporting a woman in distress. They discovered Minter suffering from multiple stab wounds to her upper body and immediately began emergency aid, but fire and rescue personnel pronounced her dead shortly after.

Surveillance footage reviewed by detectives showed Minter and the suspect exiting a bus together at the stop moments before the assault, police said. Investigators believe the two had no prior connection, with initial findings pointing to a motiveless act of violence.

The following day, police publicly identified Abdul Jalloh, 32, with no fixed address, as a person of interest based on video evidence and statements from individuals familiar with the area. Jalloh, known to frequent the Route 1 corridor, was apprehended Tuesday afternoon in nearby Woodlawn after an employee at a local liquor store recognized him from the alert and notified authorities. At the time of his arrest, officers linked him to a separate petty theft at the business, charging him with petit larceny.

By Wednesday, detectives had gathered sufficient evidence, including additional interviews and forensic analysis, to secure a warrant for second-degree murder against Jalloh in Minter's killing. He remains held without bond at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, with an arraignment set for Thursday and a preliminary hearing scheduled for May. Under Virginia law, a conviction could result in five to 40 years imprisonment and substantial fines.

Jalloh's criminal record includes prior arrests for assault, larceny and malicious wounding in the region, though several cases were dismissed when victims could not be located, prosecutors noted. Authorities emphasized his history posed risks to vulnerable community members, but stressed the current investigation focuses solely on this incident.

Bus riders who use the stop expressed dismay over the violence in a familiar public space. One regular commuter told reporters the event felt like a profound loss, heightening caution during daily routines, especially with children often nearby. Another described the news as deeply unsettling, prompting questions about safety measures at transit points. Local residents voiced relief at the swift arrest, crediting vigilant community members and police responsiveness for preventing further harm.

Police urged anyone with additional details to contact their major crimes bureau, as the probe continues to clarify events leading to the confrontation. Victim support specialists have been assigned to assist Minter's family.
