JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. — Police from two cities converged on the Big Four Bridge area late Friday night after a large group of teenagers became involved in a physical confrontation.
The Jeffersonville Police Department received reports of the disturbance and sent officers to Big Four Park on March 6, 2026 just before 11 p.m. They arrived at approximately 10:55 p.m. to find a sizable crowd of mostly teens gathered near the bridge. While the call described active fighting, arriving officers did not see any ongoing violence and began engaging with the individuals to restore order.
The group was dispersed, with many of the teenagers directed back across the bridge to the Louisville side. Footage from the scene, recorded by bystander Nikki Blakely who was in the area at the time, later showed multiple instances of black youths punching and kicking others, including one person on the ground. The recording also captured a person in the crowd yelling for someone to be thrown off the bridge.
Officers dealt with a follow-up situation when a smaller portion of the original group returned to the Indiana side of the bridge. That cluster was also moved along after further contact with police.
No arrests took place at the scene, and no charges have been publicly announced in connection with the brawl. Recognizing the extent of the gathering and the potential for additional problems, Jeffersonville police and the Louisville Metro Police Department have since increased their patrols around the Big Four Bridge and park. The stepped-up presence is intended to maintain public safety and discourage any repeat disorderly conduct or violations in the popular public space that spans the Ohio River between the two communities.
This incident highlights ongoing efforts to manage large youth gatherings at the landmark pedestrian bridge.
