Here what we have from an homicide that occurred in Indianapolis early Sunday morning. A 33-year-old woman named Rachael Rakes was shot and killed, and her father was seriously wounded at a house on the west side.

It happened around 12:35 a.m. on Westbrook Avenue. A neighbor heard a man yelling for help on the front porch and called 911. When police arrived, they found Rachael’s dad on the porch with multiple gunshot wounds to his stomach and abdomen. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

Inside the house, officers found Rachael with gunshot wounds. She was taken to the hospital but didn’t survive. She was a mother of three.

Her father had been staying there to protect her because of ongoing issues with her ex-boyfriend. While he was hurt, he was naming the suspect and asking for help. Police have identified 39-year-old Javon Cushenberry as the person they’re looking for.

Cushenberry has a history of domestic violence involving Rachael, and the neighbor said police had been called to the house multiple times before for disputes between them. He also has prior convictions, including an attempted murder charge from 2006 and more recent weapons and drug cases.

Right now, investigators believe it was a targeted incident involving just the two of them. They’re still working on the case and asking for the public’s help locating Cushenberry. Anyone with information can contact IMPD or Crime Stoppers.
