Black violence should be declared a public health emergency (PHE) by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
I say this because black Americans (approximately 13-14% of the U.S. population) are overrepresented in arrest and offender statistics for many violent crimes, particularly homicide and robbery, according to FBI Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) data. This is a consistent pattern across decades in official sources like FBI tables and Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) reports. Data reflect arrests/offenders (not convictions), and most violent crime is intra-racial.
Here are the numbers:
13-14% of the population commit about 51% to 56% of homicides, 50% to 54% of robberies, 33% of aggravated assaults, 36% to 39% of all violent crime, and 27% to 29% of property crime.
Homicide (Most Reliable Data, as It's Well-Reported)
In 2019 (FBI Expanded Homicide Data): When offender race was known, black or African American offenders accounted for 55.9% of murders, whites 41.1%, other races 3.0%.
The Black community is bearing the brunt from this epidemic, representing 54.7% of known homicide victims. Most black victims were killed by black offenders, with white-on-black being far less common than black-on-white.
To ignore any other epidemic that disproportionately affecting blacks would be considered abject racism.
2023 Bureau of Justice Statistics informs us that black homicide victimization rate was 21.3 per 100,000 (vs. 3.2 for Whites) — over 6x higher. Blacks were ~55.8% of victims in available data.
Patterns hold in other years (e.g., ~53-56% black offenders in known cases around 2018-2021). Per capita black offending rate for homicide is roughly 8x higher than whites.
Arrests for Serious Crimes (FBI UCR, 2019)
Blacks comprised about 26.6% of all violent-crime arrests in 2019.
2018 Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) data show that black Americans made up 29% of violent crime offenders identified by victims and roughly 33–36% of arrests for nonfatal and serious violent crimes — far exceeding their 13% share of the U.S. population. White Americans, conversely, were underrepresented in arrests relative to their population proportion.
For robbery, black offenders are identified by victims at a higher rate than their arrest shares indicate, though the racial disparities align in the same direction.
According to 2022 Pew Research Center analysis of National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) data, black Americans accounted for approximately 25% of perceived violent offenders — roughly twice their share of the U.S. population.
Per Capita Rates and Trends
Black Americans face arrest rates for violent crimes that are several times higher than those of white Americans — roughly 2.6 times overall, with even larger disparities for murder and robbery.
Violent crime is highly concentrated among young males of all races. Black Americans exhibit significantly elevated rates even within this demographic.
In recent years (2022–2024), FBI data show overall declines in violent crime. However, detailed race-specific tables remain limited due to the transition to the National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS). Homicide disparities have persisted.
These are group averages only and do not describe individuals. The vast majority of Black Americans are not involved in crime.
The woke left buries its head in the sands of socioeconomic factors, family structure, urban density, policing practices, and culture. But the raw disparities in FBI/BJS data are empirical facts.
Important notes on the data
In older FBI tables, the 'white' category often includes Hispanics. Hispanics (roughly 18–19% of the U.S. population) have crime rates that fall between those of non-Hispanic whites and blacks.
Data quality caveats:
Arrests are not the same as convictions; clearance rates vary by crime type and jurisdiction; and NCVS data rely on victims’ perceptions of offender race.
Primary sources are FBI Uniform Crime Reports (UCR) Table 43 and Expanded Homicide Data Tables, along with BJS reports. Where consistent data exist, these racial patterns have remained stable for decades. For the most recent raw tables, consult the FBI Crime Data Explorer or BJS publications.
