A young driver now sits in custody after authorities say he struck a woman walking to her early morning shift in Indianapolis and then tried to cover it up.

Jalen Donahue, 24, faces charges of leaving the scene of a crash resulting in death and reckless homicide. Police arrested him Saturday, and he remains at the Marion County Adult Detention Center in Indiana. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance Tuesday, June 23.

The crash happened around 2:15 a.m. on May 10 when 58-year-old Annie Torres headed to work on foot. Investigators say Donahue drove at a high speed and attempted to pass another vehicle on a double yellow line, hitting Torres from behind. The force of the impact caused catastrophic injuries, including the amputation of one of her legs. Her family did not locate her body until more than 36 hours later.

Officers recovered pieces of the vehicle at the scene and used security footage along with license plate readers to trace it back to Donahue. They found the damaged car hidden in his garage, still carrying biological evidence linked to Torres.
