Douglas, Georgia — A simple disagreement over a dog ended in gunfire last weekend, claiming the life of a 34-year-old local man and prompting swift arrests by authorities in Coffee County.

Dustin Ryan Bowen died on June 7, 2026, after suffering multiple gunshot wounds at a home in Coffee County. Deputies with the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a shooting that Sunday and found Bowen badly injured. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) joined the case at the sheriff’s request. Their work quickly pointed to a dispute centered on a canine that escalated dramatically. What began as words apparently turned violent, with fatal results for Bowen, a Douglas resident.

Within days, officers made three arrests. Breanalee Nichole Lollie, 24, of Douglas, faces a charge of party to the crime of murder. Raymond Ressler, 18, also of Douglas, was charged with aggravated assault. A 16-year-old from Douglas faces charges of murder and aggravated assault. All three remain in custody as the investigation continues.

It appears the unnamed juvenile may have been the trigger person.

Bowen, born in 1991 in Statesboro, left behind family and friends in the Douglas area. His death highlights how quickly everyday tensions can spiral when weapons enter the picture. Authorities continue to seek any additional witnesses or information that could strengthen the case.

Coffee County sits in south Georgia, where tight-knit communities often know one another through shared routines and local ties. Cases like this ripple through such places, reminding residents that conflicts — even those involving pets — demand calm heads rather than force. The GBI and sheriff’s office have not released further details about the exact sequence of events or the dog’s role.

As the legal process moves forward, prosecutors will present evidence in court. For now, the focus stays on gathering facts and ensuring justice for Bowen. Families in similar situations might consider de-escalation resources or mediation before tensions boil over.
