OXON HILL, Maryland — A simple exit from a popular casino parking garage turned deadly when a brief argument escalated into gunfire, claiming the life of a 33-year-old father. Christopher Austin Jr. had no way of knowing that his evening out would end in such a sudden loss, leaving behind a fiancée and two young children.

Prince George's County police responded around 11:10 p.m. on June 25, 2026, to reports of a crash near the MGM National Harbor. Officers found Austin inside his three-wheeled Slingshot autocycle suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene after the vehicle came to a stop following the shooting.

Investigators pieced together that Austin and 36-year-old Tyrell Hairston of Accokeek had been waiting in the same line to leave the parking garage. Hairston started an argument with Austin before stepping out of his own vehicle, walking over, and firing several shots. Austin attempted to drive away but crashed nearby.

Hairston contacted authorities himself shortly afterward, reporting the incident and turning himself in. He now faces charges in the case, with a judge denying bond during his initial court appearance. Police have found no evidence that the two men knew each other before that night.

Austin, originally from the area but living in Alexandria, Virginia, worked hard as a father and partner. Those who knew him described a man whose presence could brighten any room. His death serves as a stark example of how minor frustrations on the road can spiral out of control in seconds, with irreversible consequences for families.

The incident has drawn attention to the risks that can arise even in routine moments, such as leaving a crowded venue. Austin's family has set up support efforts to help with funeral costs and other needs as they navigate this loss.

Authorities continue to review evidence from the scene, including surveillance from the casino area, as the prosecution moves forward.
