A 34-year-old white Dayton man died after being shot Monday afternoon, and authorities have now charged a man and a woman in connection with his death.

Braden Junkins was found suffering from a gunshot wound in Dayton, Ohio, on Sept. 21, 2026. Police responded shortly after 4:30 p.m. following a report of a shooting. Officers provided medical assistance before Junkins was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

The case moved from an initial shooting investigation to a homicide prosecution.

Two charged

On Thursday, Dayton Municipal Court records showed that Laterell Turner Jr., 32, and Destanie McComb, 37, were facing charges related to Junkins' death. Both present as black.

Turner faces two counts of murder, two counts of felonious assault and one count of tampering with evidence, according to WHIO. McComb faces one count of tampering with evidence and two counts of obstructing justice. Both were being held in the Montgomery County Jail.

What investigators say happened

According to an affidavit and statement of facts reported by WHIO, Turner told investigators that he encountered Junkins after allegedly catching him breaking into a detached garage.

Authorities say Turner admitted shooting Junkins during the confrontation. Investigators also said Turner told them he later gave the handgun to his girlfriend.

Police allege McComb played a role in what happened afterward. Court records cited by WHIO say she provided false information during the investigation and acknowledged hiding the firearm in a bathroom. Those allegations led to the evidence-tampering and obstruction charges against her.

The case began with officers responding to a wounded man and has since developed into a criminal prosecution involving two defendants. Prosecutors will ultimately have to establish the allegations in court, while investigators continue working through the evidence surrounding Junkins' death.
