CHESAPEAKE, Va. — A 31-year-old woman was killed inside a Chesapeake home Sept. 24, and police are searching for a man they say is wanted in connection with her death.

Laureen Brooks was found dead after Chesapeake police were called to a residence shortly before 8 p.m. for a report of a domestic assault in progress. Officers entered the home and found Brooks in a bathroom with gunshot wounds, according to police.

The case is being investigated as a homicide.

Police Identify Suspect

Investigators have identified 28-year-old Omar Malik Patterson as the man wanted in connection with Brooks' death. Police say Patterson left the area following the shooting and consider him armed and dangerous.

Authorities have not reported that Patterson has been arrested as of Sept. 30.

Police have also said Patterson has connections to Chesapeake, Norfolk and Virginia Beach. Investigators have released a physical description of him and are asking people who may know his whereabouts to contact law enforcement rather than approaching him.

Children Were Inside the Home
