DailyKenn.com — Emily Lee-Anna Willis, 27, was fatally shot in Indianapolis, IN.
34-year-old Deonta “Tay” Nelson was arrested. He was charged with murder and unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.
Reports say Willis was heard shouting, "Leave me alone," as she ran to escape a gray Honda. A passenger in the car opened fire with at least 20 rounds.
She was found on a nearby porch at about 9:30 p.m. and pronounced dead an hour and a half later.
Rural Avenue hasn't been "rural" for generations. But when I grew up in the nearby Irvington neighborhood, the city's near east side remained a relative safe, though cash-poor, white area. As the dark cloud of urban savagery invaded the area, violent crime followed.
