Honduran Caravan Reaches Southern Mexico

TAPACHULA, Chiapas — Sept. 25, 2026 — A migrant caravan of about 400 aliens reached Tapachula, Mexico this week after traveling from Honduras through Guatemala, putting a new group of Central American invaders on the road toward northern Mexico.

The group, calling itself “Fe y Esperanza” (Faith and Hope), left San Pedro Sula, Honduras, on Sept. 20. It crossed into Mexico from Guatemala and reached the southern Mexican city of Tapachula after a long journey on foot.

Different destinations?

The caravan's members do not all appear to have the same final destination. Some have said they want to continue north with the United States as their eventual destination, while others are considering remaining in Mexico, or so they say. Reports indicate the group planned to rest in Tapachula before continuing toward northern Mexico.

The arrival comes at a time when U.S. immigration enforcement remains stringent under the oversight of the Trump administration. Federal authorities continue to prosecute certain illegal-entry and reentry cases, while the Department of Homeland Security has continued announcing removals of people who are subject to deportation.

Who is feeding them?

Rather than staying primarily at one of Tapachula's established migrant shelters, members of the caravan have been using Parque Bicentenario as a temporary resting area.

Local and humanitarian organizations have provided assistance while the group waits. Health personnel from multiple regional health offices across different states in Mexico collectively called Jurisdicción Sanitaria VII, conducted medical checks, provided medicine and performed fever-related testing. Proyecto Faro and ADRA Ayuda Humanitaria a Migrantes also supplied food, water, hygiene products and other assistance.

Tapachula's municipal government also provided water, drinks for children, hygiene supplies, portable toilets and basic public services, according to local reports.

Who organized the caravan?

While alien caravans almost certainly do no arise spontaneously, there is no confirmed reporting that a particular organization organized or financed the caravan. Participants have described the movement as self-organized, while humanitarian groups provided assistance after the group reached Tapachula. Members have said they are paying their own way and receiving food donations along the route.

A smaller caravan than those of recent years

The “Fe y Esperanza” caravan is considerably smaller than the massive alien movements that attracted national attention a few years ago. For now, Tapachula is a pause rather than the final destination. The group is expected to resume its northward journey after resting in the city.
