Polk County deputies conducted a welfare check on Margaret at the request of her father, finding her dead in the basement of their home. She had severe injuries, including a caved-in portion of her skull, and a shotgun with unfired ammunition was found nearby.
Jared was arrested after a Minnesota crisis line informed authorities that he had expressed suicidal thoughts while driving with his two children. During his arrest, he reached for a shotgun.
