MONTOURSVILLE, Pa. — A 43-year-old Montoursville woman died four days after suffering life-threatening injuries during a prolonged standoff with police at her apartment, authorities confirmed today, as homicide charges were filed against the man accused of holding her at gunpoint.

Jonette M. Crossley was declared brain dead Feb. 14 at UPMC Williamsport and later taken off life support, Lycoming County Coroner Charles H. Kiessling Jr. announced. Her death resulted from multiple gunshot wounds sustained in the early hours of Feb. 11 following a five-hour barricade situation that began the previous evening.

The incident started shortly after 8 p.m. on Feb. 10 when Montoursville police responded to a welfare check at Crossley's residence in the 300 block of Jordan Avenue. Officers heard voices inside the apartment and attempted contact. A single shot was fired from within, with a bullet striking near the position of a county probation officer standing outside, according to state police.

Crossley called 911 around 9:06 p.m., telling dispatchers that a man had a firearm pressed to her head and was threatening to kill her unless police withdrew. She provided details about barricaded doors and their location in the bathroom before the call ended.

Police established a perimeter, evacuated neighboring residents, and brought in crisis negotiators and special response teams from Williamsport and surrounding counties. Negotiations continued unsuccessfully for several hours.

At approximately 1:50 a.m. on Feb. 11, the Williamsport Special Response Team entered the apartment. Two additional gunshots were heard from inside as officers moved forward. They located Crossley suffering from severe gunshot wounds and arrested Johnnie A. Drummond, 43, of Norwood, who was also injured. A stolen handgun was recovered at the scene; no officers discharged their weapons, investigators stated.

Drummond, previously convicted of kidnapping and robbery, was initially charged with three counts of attempted murder—one each against Crossley and two officers—along with aggravated assault, unlawful restraint, firearms violations and related offenses. Following her death, Lycoming County District Attorney Thomas A. Marino upgraded one count to criminal homicide. He remains in Lycoming County Prison without bail.

Investigators learned of an earlier unreported incident in which Drummond allegedly threatened Crossley with a gun. Her husband, Nathan Crossley, described her as a loving mother whose five children, ranging in age from 9 to 22, were the center of her world. Community members have launched fundraising efforts to support the family.

Coroner Kiessling coordinated with the Gift of Life Donor Program, allowing Crossley's organs to benefit multiple recipients. An autopsy is scheduled following organ donation.

Residents of the quiet borough expressed dismay at the rare outbreak of violence in their community.
