WATSON, La. — Mitchell Ventress, 26, of Denham Springs, died from a gunshot wound inside his vehicle in the parking lot of a McDonald’s restaurant along Highway 16 on the evening of March 18.
Deputies with the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office arrived shortly after 7 p.m. following a report of a shooting. They found Ventress seated in the driver’s seat of his car with a fatal wound. An employee at the restaurant first noticed the vehicle and its occupant.
Investigators determined that Kevonta Dennis, 25, and Keedrick Jack, 39, both of Baton Rouge, had arranged to meet Ventress at the location to buy narcotics. During that encounter, Ventress was shot and killed. The precise circumstances that triggered the gunfire remain under review.
A suspect vehicle was located later that night in the Central area of East Baton Rouge Parish. Officers stopped the car and detained Dennis along with Keondra McNeely, 26, also of Baton Rouge. Jack was taken into custody separately in connection with the case.
All three individuals are being held in East Baton Rouge Parish facilities pending transfer to the Livingston Parish Detention Center. Specific charges have not been announced as detectives continue gathering evidence.
The shooting occurred in a busy commercial area near the intersection of Highway 16 and Springfield Road, where the fast-food restaurant operates alongside other businesses. Ventress had traveled from his home in neighboring Denham Springs for the meeting. No additional details about prior interactions between the parties have been released.
Authorities have not identified any independent eyewitnesses to the moment of the shooting itself. The investigation is ongoing, with forensic work and interviews forming the core of the case file.
