INDIANAPOLIS — A double shooting outside a northeast side church Saturday morning left one man dead and a second man critically injured as a large crowd attended a funeral service inside.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were dispatched at approximately 9:55 a.m. to the 700 block of East 32nd Street after receiving reports of shots fired near Antioch Fountain of Grace Baptist Church. While officers were en route, dispatchers confirmed that at least one person had been wounded at the scene.

Upon arrival, officers located two adult men suffering from gunshot wounds outside the building. Paramedics provided immediate aid and transported both victims to an area hospital in critical condition. One man died a short time later from his injuries, while the second remained hospitalized in critical condition.

Police said a disturbance outside the church preceded the gunfire. The incident occurred during a funeral service drawing a large crowd but was unrelated to the service itself, according to authorities at the scene.

Homicide detectives and evidence technicians processed the area, collecting forensic evidence and documenting the scene. The Marion County Coroner’s Office assumed responsibility for identifying the deceased man after notifications to his family. Victim names have not been released.

No suspects have been identified or taken into custody. Investigators continue to seek details from anyone who may have information about the events leading to the shooting or observed individuals involved.

The IMPD homicide unit is leading the active investigation and has asked the public to contact detectives or Crime Stoppers with any relevant details.
