MOORESBORO, N.C. — Authorities in Rutherford County quickly turned a missing person report into a homicide case when they located the remains of a 30-year-old woman buried on property in the area.

Jordan Elaine Wishon, who lived in Mooresboro, North Carolina, was reported missing on June 26, 2026. Investigators from the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office interviewed people who might have information about her whereabouts and obtained several search warrants that same day and into the next morning.

By early June 27, deputies executed one of those warrants and found human remains buried on the property. Officials later confirmed through identification that the remains belonged to Wishon. She left behind a young daughter and a fiancé, according to family details shared in her obituary.

On June 28, authorities secured a warrant charging 25-year-old Jaydakis Kashaune Hamilton, of Rutherfordton, North Carolina, with first-degree murder. At the time, Hamilton already sat in the Polk County Detention Center facing unrelated charges that included larceny of a motor vehicle, reckless driving and resisting a public officer. The new murder warrant had not yet been served as the investigation continued.

Wishon, born in 1995, graduated from Mayland Community College and worked as a server. Those who knew her remembered her lively spirit and big heart. She enjoyed cooking and swimming. Her family includes her mother, stepfather, brother, half-siblings and other relatives in the region. A celebration of her life is planned for a later date.

The case highlights how swiftly local agencies can shift from searching for a missing person to handling a death investigation. Multiple organizations assisted the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office, including the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation and others. Officials have released few additional details to protect the ongoing probe.
