LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Police received a report of a shooting shortly after 7 p.m. on Sept. 19, 2026, in a mobile home community in Louisville’s Watterson Park neighborhood. Officers found Cristian Calderon, 11, wounded and sent him by ambulance to Norton Children’s Hospital.

He arrived in critical condition.

Charges Filed That Night

Louisville Metro Police’s homicide unit arrested two juveniles at the scene. A 14-year-old was charged with first-degree assault and possession of a handgun by a minor. A 17-year-old was charged with first-degree wanton endangerment, possession of a handgun by a minor and tampering with physical evidence. Because both are minors, police have not released their names.

Investigators said everyone involved had been located. Early accounts indicated children were playing when a handgun was produced.

Three Days Later

Calderon remained in critical condition through the weekend. On Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2026, his family said he had died from the injuries.

The homicide unit is now treating the case as a death investigation. No additional arrests have been announced.
