The death of a 1-year-old Scottsville, Kentucky, boy has become a criminal investigation, with authorities charging a 22-year-old man with murder following the child’s death July 27.

Mason Anders “Bubba” Moulding was found unresponsive at a home in Scottsville on Monday, July 27, according to the Allen County-Scottsville Criminal Investigations Division. First responders attempted to revive him, but he died. An obituary identifies Mason as the son of Michael Moulding and Alexandrea Price.

The investigation moved quickly after authorities responded to the report of the unresponsive child. Detectives later said they found evidence pointing to severe neglect and physical abuse. Based on evidence presented to a judge, authorities obtained a warrant charging 22-year-old Deavan Williams with murder in connection with Mason’s death.

Williams was not the only person arrested. Mason’s mother, 22-year-old Alexandrae Price, was charged with first-degree criminal abuse of a child age 12 or younger. Authorities also arrested 51-year-old Tina Price, who faces charges of first-degree criminal abuse, multiple counts of animal cruelty and two counts of knowingly neglecting a vulnerable adult.

Investigators reported that Mason had been living in what they described as dangerous and unsanitary conditions. Authorities also removed two adult males with autism from the residence and placed them in a safe location. More than a dozen animals, including dogs, cats and a possum, were also seized during the investigation.

The precise medical cause of Mason’s death had not yet been released in the latest reports. Authorities said autopsy results were pending, meaning additional details about how the child died could emerge as the investigation continues.
