CHICAGO, Illinois — Danielle Carter-Walters is entering the 2027 Chicago mayoral race as a Republican challenger, bringing a background in grassroots activism and small-business ownership to a campaign built around government accountability, public safety and economic issues. Illinois State Board of Elections records list Carter-Walters as a Republican candidate for Chicago mayor, with her campaign committee, Friends for Danni C, established in May 2026.

The prospects of major American cities with massive black populations electing a white mayor are slim.

Carter-Walters is a Chicago native and a vice president and board member of Chicago Flips Red, a conservative grassroots organization. Her campaign biography describes her as a small-business owner and the wife of a retired Chicago Police Department officer. In 2025, she gained wider attention after appearing before congressional committees to discuss Chicago's sanctuary-city policies and immigration enforcement. The House Judiciary Committee listed her as a Chicago resident and representative of Chicago Flips Red at an April 9, 2025, hearing. She later testified before a Senate Judiciary subcommittee on Nov. 19, 2025.

Her mayoral campaign places government reform near the center of its platform. Carter-Walters has called for forensic audits of city finances, greater transparency and efforts to identify government waste. She also proposes tax relief and fiscal discipline, arguing that Chicago should make it easier for families and businesses to remain in the city.

Economic development is another major component. Her campaign calls for stronger support for small businesses, expanded job opportunities and renewed investment in neighborhoods. Education proposals include greater parental choice, school accountability and an emphasis on discipline and workforce preparation. Housing policy is framed around neighborhood revitalization and protecting property ownership.

Carter-Walters also takes a hard-line position on immigration. She opposes Chicago's sanctuary-city policies and favors closer cooperation between local authorities and federal immigration officials. Her congressional testimony has focused heavily on immigration enforcement and the allocation of city resources.

Her campaign additionally emphasizes public safety, prevention of large disruptive youth gatherings, neighborhood investment and government accountability. Whether that agenda can broaden Carter-Walters' support in a city where Democratic candidates have traditionally dominated mayoral politics will be an important question as the 2027 contest develops.

For now, Carter-Walters is presenting herself as an outsider challenging Chicago's established political structure — with a campaign centered less on City Hall tradition and more on changing how City Hall operates.
