LORIS, S.C. — A 67-year-old man was killed inside his home near Loris on Aug. 9, and authorities have charged a 19-year-old relative in connection with his death.
Ellis O'Neil “Rawhide” Brown Jr. died Sunday, Aug. 9, 2026, at his home in Horry County, according to his obituary. Brown was born Feb. 5, 1959, in Conway and had worked as a heavy equipment operator before retiring. He was also described as someone who valued time with his family.
The case became public after Horry County police identified Jamarius O'Neil Brown, 19, as the person accused in the killing. Police served him with warrants Aug. 11 charging him with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to reporting by The Post and Courier Myrtle Beach.
Investigators said the shooting happened inside the home the two men shared in the Loris area. Authorities have not publicly disclosed what led to the shooting or provided a detailed account of what happened immediately beforehand. Those unanswered questions remain part of the investigation.
